In the midst of current trials and tribulations, I have somehow managed to find peace and enlightenment. With the passing of a dear friend, with whom I shared many memories and growing experiences with, I learned to no longer take even the most trivial moments in my life for granted.

At the services, the pastor explained that our biggest mistakes as humans is always assuming that there will be a tomorrow. We don’t take enough time to savor and cherish the relationships we have. We let them fall apart, we grow distant from our friends, our families, and even ourselves. I am guilty of this, as I think most of us are. We tend to easily forget how much people mean to us, and why they meant anything to us in the first place. People come in and out of your life for a reason, and right now I am missing a lot of people. The relationships we have with others, past, present, and future, define us.

It is so important to keep those people close, and tell them how much they mean to us. They need to hear it. Your significant other needs to know how you much care and love them. Your friends need to know how much you appreciate them, even in your worst times. Your family needs to know that blood is thicker than water, no matter what the situation may be. I love my dear friends, my amazing boyfriend, my family. With death, always comes life.

Somehow through the heartache of loss, I have made a self-discovery. Each moment passes by so fast, but each moment is a chance to turn it all around, to be a better person, to work on your relationships, to live the best life you can for others and yourself. So do it. Don’t waste your moments on the trivial, cherish each and every one, for we are LUCKY to have them. And we are even luckier to have people we love to share them with. Don’t take those moments for granted, because tomorrow is not guaranteed.

Only once in your life, I truly believe, you find someone who can completely turn your world around. You tell them things that you’ve never shared with another soul and they absorb everything you say and actually want to hear more. You share hopes for the future, dreams that will never come true, goals that were never achieved and the many disappointments life has thrown at you.

When something wonderful happens, you can’t wait to tell them about it, knowing they will share in your excitement. They are not embarrassed to cry with you when you are hurting or laugh with you when you make a fool of yourself. Never do they hurt your feelings or make you feel like you are not good enough, but rather they build you up and show you the things about yourself that make you special and even beautiful. There is never any pressure, jealousy or competition but only a quiet calmness when they are around.

You can be yourself and not worry about what they will think of you because they love you for who you are. The things that seem insignificant to most people such as a note, song or walk become invaluable treasures kept safe in your heart to cherish forever. Memories of your childhood come back and are so clear and vivid it’s like being young again.

Colours seem brighter and more brilliant. Laughter seems part of daily life where before it was infrequent or didn’t exist at all. A phone call or two during the day helps to get you through a long day’s work and always brings a smile to your face. In their presence, there’s no need for continuous conversation, but you find you’re quite content in just having them nearby. Things that never interested you before become fascinating because you know they are important to this person who is so special to you. You think of this person on every occasion and in everything you do. Simple things bring them to mind like a pale blue sky, gentle wind or even a storm cloud on the horizon.

You open your heart knowing that there’s a chance it may be broken one day and in opening your heart, you experience a love and joy that you never dreamed possible. You find that being vulnerable is the only way to allow your heart to feel true pleasure that’s so real it scares you.

You find strength in knowing you have a true friend and possibly a soul mate who will remain loyal to the end. Life seems completely different, exciting and worthwhile. Your only hope and security is in knowing that they are a part of your life.

I don’t exactly know where you came from, or where you’ve been hiding, or why you showed up when you did. You fell out of the sky and into my life at exactly the right moment. Strange coincidences and some random act of “fate” brought us here.

I was jaded. My heart was guarded, it was cautious, you opened it right up and I let you in without question. I’ll admit it’s not how I usually do things, but you just feel right, natural, and genuine.

I forgot what it was like to feel like this, to open up my mind, body, and soul and share myself with someone else and to have all of that reciprocated. I forgot what it was like to feel cared for, to feel beautiful, to feel comfortable being myself with someone else.

I’m extremely scared and extremely excited at the same time. I want to share everything with you. I want to take care of you. I want to be that girl for you. I want all of the good things in life for us. And mostly, I want to explore the world with you.
